Course Overview

This course provides a guide to conducting workplace investigations. It will enable you to:

  • identify why workplace investigations are important and when an investigation might be instigated;
  • recognise how complaints arise, the complaints process and how to deal with allegations;
  • understand the investigation process, including key considerations and conducting interviews; and
  • consider the outcomes phase of an investigation, findings and the implementation of recommendations.

Module1

Investigations infrastructure: why, when, what, how and who

This module considers the following:

  • why workplace investigations are important;
  • when might an investigation be initiated;
  • the investigations roadmap;
  • laying the groundwork: investigation policies; and
  • grey areas such as selecting the investigator.
Module 2

Complaints and formulating allegations

This module considers the following:

  • dealing with complaints in the workplace;
  • the complaints process;
  • anonymous complaints and confidentiality; and
  • dealing with allegations.
Module 3

The investigation process

This module considers the following:

  • commencing the investigation process;
  • dealing with the investigation’s participants;
  • conducting interviews;
  • the role of the support person; and
  • witnesses and the order of interviews.
Module 4

Investigation outcomes: findings, recommendations and decision making

This module considers the following:

  • the outcomes phase of an investigation;
  • findings and recommendations;
  • decision making;
  • concluding the investigation; and
  • implementing recommendations.
Module 5

Best practice and risk minimisation

The final module considers:

  • best practice in conducting investigations; and
  • minimising risks when completing workplace investigations.

Completion of the course requires a licence, which is issued upon registration and payment.
