Joydeep Hor recognised as “Thought Leader” in Labour & Employment Law
PCS Founder & Managing Principal Joydeep Hor has been recognised by Who’s Who Legal in the latest edition of WWL Thought Leaders: Labour & Employment as one of the select Thought Leaders in Labour & Employment Law globally. It confirms his status as one of the best labor lawyers in Australia.
This highly-respected publication brings together the insight, expertise and wisdom of some of the world’s foremost labour, employment and benefits lawyers in a single book.
Joydeep is a Graduate of Harvard Business School’s Owner-President Management Program and one of Australia’s best labor lawyers and legal entrepreneurs.
Having completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Sydney where he majored in English literature together with his Bachelor of Laws (with Honours) degree, Joydeep went on to complete a Master of Laws at the same institution, focusing on labour and employment law. Joydeep has been ranked as a leading lawyer in Chambers every year since 2010, in Doyle’s Guide to the Legal Profession and was recognised as Australia’s “Workplace Relations Lawyer of the Year” in 2016 by Corporate LiveWire’s Legal Awards. He is globally recognised as one of the best labor lawyers in Australia.
Joydeep started his career at a global firm, before moving to a specialist workplace relations firm where he was made an equity partner at the age of 28. He was elected managing partner of that firm from 2005 to 2010. In July 2010, Joydeep founded a groundbreaking practice in the legal industry, People + Culture Strategies. PCS was established to be unlike any other legal firm given its emphasis on working with its clients to prevent disputation and legal problems arising within their organisations, as opposed to a mere “reactive” provider. PCS now services over 800 employers (with a strong reputation particularly in handling sensitive employee separation issues, matters of workplace bullying and harassment and developing strategic solutions to organisation’s people management challenges). Clients of the firm include Mars, KFC, Cochlear, Virgin Active, BaptistCare, Tesla, Sony Universal, American Express and many other household name businesses. The firm has sustained revenue growth in excess of 20% every year due to the strength of its value proposition and its “partnership-based” approach to clients and flexible billing options. PCS is a member of Innangard, a global alliance of specialist labour and employment law firms, giving its clients access to leading lawyers around the world.
Joydeep’s first book Inside Employee Screening was published in 1999 and he has authored several books since that time, including Managing Workplace Behaviour, Managing Termination of Employment and Finders Keepers: A Guide to Attracting and Retaining Great Employees. He has been a keynote speaker at countless conventions and industry events (such as the International Bar Association’s conferences in Tokyo, Washington DC and Vienna) and for many years has been appearing on television programs for Channel 7, the ABC, Sky News and Your Money as a thought leader and commentator in his areas of expertise. In 2016 Joydeep accepted an invitation to represent Australia at the International Forum on Employment Law in Portugal an event at which he has continued as the sole Australian representative and is now on the Steering Committee. In January 2019, Joydeep was elected as Secretary of the International Bar Association’s Diversity & Equality Committee.
Some of the Boards on which Joydeep has served include as a member of the Audit & Risk Committee for the Victorian Auditor-General’s Office, the American Club, the SCECGS Redlands Foundation. He is also the personal adviser on people management matters to the Waratahs & NSW Rugby and also to Cricket NSW.
